Cwmbran man sentenced for child abuse images

A 38-year-old man from Cwmbran has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting to possessing dozens of indecent images of children alongside extreme pornographic material involving an animal.

Matthew Bright, of Greenwood Avenue, Pontnewydd, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to a string of offences committed between August 1, 2024 and November 3, 2025.

The images

Bright admitted possessing 31 indecent photographs of a child at category A – the most serious classification. He also accepted having 22 images at category B and a further four at category C.

Alongside the child abuse material, the defendant pleaded guilty to possessing two extreme pornographic images depicting “a person performing an act of intercourse with a dead, unknown animal”.

Sentence

Bright was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He must register as a sex offender for seven years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for five years. Bright was also ordered to pay a £154 surcharge and £85 in costs.
