A 42-year-old Newport man who was previously imprisoned for biting off another man’s ear is back behind bars, this time for attacking a woman.

Andrew MacNamee was given 17 months in prison at Cardiff Crown Court. He had admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The assault

The court heard that MacNamee attacked the woman in Newport on July 13.

Sentencing

Recorder Paul Lewis KC handed down the following:

  • 17 months in prison
  • A 10-year restraining order banning MacNamee from contacting the woman
  • A £187 victim surcharge

Previous conviction

This is not MacNamee’s first prison sentence for violence. In 2018 he was jailed for four years for causing grievous bodily harm to a man.

That attack happened during a fight outside a bar on Cambrian Road in Newport city centre, where MacNamee bit off his victim’s ear.
