A burglar has been jailed for 14 months after an off-duty Gwent Police officer spotted him in Newport and chased him through several streets before detaining him. Arron Young, 35, admitted multiple burglary and theft offences at Newport Crown Court.

A Caerphilly man has been sentenced to six years and 10 months in prison and banned from driving for life after killing 84-year-old Gaynor James at a pedestrian crossing in Pengam. Andrew Perry, 56, had concealed a degenerative eye condition from the DVLA for more than two decades.
