A man who got behind the wheel of a car while banned from driving and without insurance has been handed an immediate four-month prison sentence.
Carl Wall, 43, who lives on Corporation Road in Newport, was sent to jail after magistrates in the city decided that nothing short of custody would do.
Why the court jailed him
Setting out its reasons, the court pointed to Wall’s “blatant disregard for court orders and total disregard for road traffic laws”. It also took into account his previous relevant convictions.
The court ruled that the offending was serious enough that only an immediate custodial sentence could be justified.
Because he was jailed, no order was made for him to pay prosecution costs.
The offences
Magistrates were told that on March 20, 2026, Wall drove a Ford Focus on Aneurin Bevan Court and Duffryn Drive.
On September 11, 2026, he entered guilty pleas to:
- Driving whilst disqualified
- Driving without insurance
The case
Laura Thomas prosecuted, and Wall was represented by Rhys Davies.
