We aim to report accurately, fairly and in the public interest. This page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to.
Accuracy
We check facts before we publish and take care to distinguish between fact, comment and conjecture. When we get something wrong we put it right promptly. See our corrections policy.
Court reporting
Our court reports are based on what is said in open court and on information made public by the courts, police and Crown Prosecution Service. We follow reporting restrictions, never identify victims of sexual offences, and take particular care when reporting on children and young people.
A person charged with an offence is innocent unless proven guilty, and we report cases in that light. Where someone is acquitted or charges are dropped, we will report that if we reported the original charge, on request.
Privacy
We respect people’s private and family lives and will only intrude where there is a clear public interest.
Grief and shock
We approach bereaved families and people in distress with sympathy and discretion. Tributes are published with the family’s consent where possible.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers and sponsors. Sponsored content is always clearly labelled.
Regulation
[Wales Updates is not currently a member of a press regulator. We aim to follow the principles of the Editors’ Code of Practice.] Complaints are handled under our complaints policy.
