A car was taken off the road in Cwmbran on Halloween night after police received several reports that it was being driven anti-socially and that people inside it were throwing eggs at members of the public and other road users.

What happened

Special constables from Gwent Police were out on high-visibility patrols across Torfaen on Saturday, 31 October, as part of Op Bang, the force’s Halloween operation.

While they were covering the Cwmbran area, a number of reports came in about the vehicle. As well as the way it was being driven, there were allegations that the occupants had been targeting people by throwing eggs out of it.

The stop

The officers searched the surrounding area and found the car a short distance away. They stopped it and seized it under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.

The force’s response

When it shared details on Sunday, Gwent Police called the seizure a great result for its specials. It said the stop showed its commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour and keeping communities safe.

The force also said behaviour like this will not be tolerated and that it will keep taking positive action against anyone causing nuisance and distress in local communities.
