David Francis, 42, was caught inside the Orb Drive store in Lliswerry with £380 of alcohol after officers heard glass shattering in the early hours. He admitted burglary and was jailed for four months at Newport Magistrates’ Court.

Stephan Evans, 20, of Pennant Street, Willowtown, has pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates’ Court to making and distributing indecent images of children. He will be sentenced at the crown court on August 28 and must register as a sex offender.

Scott Thomas, 33, of no fixed abode, has been jailed for 12 weeks after admitting stealing a Ring doorbell in Caldicot and a circular saw from Lidl in Chepstow. He also admitted failing to surrender to custody at Newport Magistrates’ Court.

Craig Thompson, 42, of Albert Street, has been handed four weeks in custody at Newport Magistrates’ Court after admitting assault by beating, failing to surrender to bail and breaching a community protection notice. The bench found the assault too serious for anything other than a prison term.

Brian Hammond, 71, of Vere Place, Gilfach, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl last summer. He was granted conditional bail and will be sentenced at the crown court on 21 August.

Kieron Davies, 39, of no fixed abode, has pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary at Newport Magistrates’ Court after champagne, spirits, vapes and cash were stolen from two pubs and a hardware shop. He will be sentenced on August 13.

Colin Bick, 49, of Marl Court, Thornhill, Cwmbran, has indicated guilty pleas at Newport Magistrates’ Court to possessing 216 indecent images of children. He was granted unconditional bail and placed on the sex offenders register ahead of sentencing on 6 August.

Oakley Nunes, 24, has been disqualified from driving for three years after admitting he failed to provide a blood sample when suspected of drink or drug driving at Ystrad Mynach. Newport magistrates also imposed a community order and financial penalties.

Nathan Curley, 19, was sent to a young offender institution for 16 weeks after admitting stealing an iPhone and Montirex sportswear worth £130 from JD Sports in Newport.

Matthew Jones, 43, of Chepstow Road, Newport, was sentenced at Newport Magistrates’ Court after admitting to a series of thefts and a burglary at Asda and Tesco stores.

Leigh Dixon, 44, of Bettws, was given a suspended sentence at Newport Magistrates’ Court after admitting killing a wild bird at Friars Walk and a public order offence.

Kirk Edwards, 29, was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison after attacking a Sainsbury’s employee while stealing whisky and chocolates. He was already subject to a suspended sentence, conditional discharge, and community order at the time.
