Adam Doughton, an assistant headteacher at St Joseph’s RC High School, has been given a 12-month conditional discharge after pleading guilty to an act outraging public decency in Newport.
The 34-year-old, who lives on Apollo Way in Blackwood, appeared for sentencing at Newport Magistrates’ Court on October 2, 2026.
What he admitted
Doughton accepted that on August 22, 2026, he behaved in an indecent way in a public place by performing sexual acts on another person.
The court’s decision
His discharge will run for 12 months. Without his guilty plea, that period would have stood at 18 months.
He was also ordered to pay:
- £85 in costs
- a £26 surcharge
Both amounts must be settled in full by October 30, 2026.
School’s response
St Joseph’s RC High School said it had been working with Newport City Council in the wake of the incident.
Headteacher Mrs J Morgan said: “St Joseph’s Roman Catholic High School and Newport City Council have followed the appropriate procedures in relation to the member of staff.
“The incident occurred outside the school and did not involve anyone else from the school community.
“We will be making no further comment.”
