A man who carried out a run of thefts from shops in Roath and Cardiff city centre over the summer has been banned from a list of local businesses for the next three years.
Nicholas Trask, 46, of Roath, was given a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court after his recent conviction, South Wales Police said.
The offending
Between June and September 2026, Trask stole from retailers and businesses on Albany Road, Wellfield Road and City Road, as well as in the city centre.
He was later arrested and taken to Cardiff Bay Police Station. While he was in custody there, he threw a cup of water at a police officer, and he was charged with assaulting an emergency worker on top of the thefts.
Conviction and sentence
On September 30, magistrates convicted him of multiple shoplifting offences and of assaulting an emergency worker.
He was spared jail and given a 26-week sentence, suspended for 12 months.
Where he can’t go
The order bans him from entering:
- Superdrug, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, the Post Office and Siop Sero on Albany Road
- Bentleys Coffee Lounge and Tesco on Wellfield Road
- The Ernest Willows on City Road
- Tesco Express on Clifton Street, Tesco Express on North Road and Tesco Express inside the Capitol Shopping Centre
- Waterstones on The Hayes
If the order is broken
Breaching a CBO is a criminal offence, and Trask could be arrested and prosecuted again if he does.
Police said the order is meant to protect local businesses, their staff and the wider community by keeping him away from the places linked to his offending. The force added that the case shows its commitment to tackling shoplifting.
Anyone who sees a breach or another incident is asked to report it to police.
