An 83-year-old man from Caerphilly has been handed a suspended prison sentence after admitting to possessing indecent images of children.
Roy Robertson, of Larch Grove, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to two counts of making an indecent photograph of a child.
The offences
Prosecutor Lucy Goodridge told the court that Robertson’s offending took place between February 18, 2025 and October 8, 2025. Among the material discovered was one category A image – the most serious classification – along with two at category B.
Mitigation
James Lynch, representing Robertson, told the court his client had no previous convictions. The court also heard that the 83-year-old is the sole carer for his ill wife.
Sentence
Robertson was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He must also complete a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
The defendant was ordered to pay a £154 surcharge and £85 costs. He will be required to sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order until 2033.
