A woman has been handed a significant driving ban after being caught behind the wheel whilst more than three times the legal alcohol limit – and already disqualified from driving.
Sophia Hoppis, 35, of New Road, Caerleon, Newport, was arrested whilst driving a Vauxhall Insignia on Chepstow Road in Newport on Sunday, October 5.
The defendant gave a reading of 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit being 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Hoppis pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving whilst disqualified, and driving without insurance when she appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
She was banned from driving for four years and four months and handed a 12-month community order. She must also complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and pay £85 costs.
