Three repeat offenders have been locked up after South Wales Police arrested all of them on the same day for shoplifting across Merthyr Tydfil.
Julian Jones, 33, was jailed for four weeks after stealing a bottle of vodka from a store in the town. Sam Thomas, 29, also received a four-week custodial sentence for taking items from a separate premises. Brandon Kelly, 29, was handed the heaviest punishment – 12 weeks in prison – after stealing from multiple shops across Merthyr Tydfil.
All three defendants, each from Merthyr Tydfil, were detained on June 16 following offences committed in the town centre and Gurnos area. They were brought before Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court the following day and sentenced immediately.
The operation was led by the force’s Neighbourhood Support Team, which has been targeting problematic and prolific offenders in the Merthyr area.
