Abertillery thug jailed for assaulting woman and officers

A thug from Abertillery has been jailed for 54 weeks after a catalogue of violent attacks against a woman and police officers across south Wales.

Leo Deacon, 24, of Valley View Road, Cwmtillery, Abertillery, pleaded guilty to seven offences committed in Abertillery and Porthcawl between April 6 and November 22.

The defendant admitted assault by beating and two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker in Porthcawl. He also pleaded guilty to persistently making use of a public communication network to cause annoyance/inconvenience/anxiety.

Deacon further admitted three counts of assaulting PCs Thomas Simmonds, Connor David and Cameron Dowden in the execution of their duty.

Newport Magistrates’ Court heard the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended prison sentence.

In addition to the 54-week jail term, Deacon was ordered to pay compensation following his release from custody.

The court heard Deacon was previously sent to jail for 12 months in 2022 for similar offences.
