A motorist has been sent to prison after being caught driving whilst disqualified in Newport.

Luke Knowles was pulled over by officers on St Woolos Place on Saturday, January 3. The 37-year-old not only had no right to be on the road, but also refused to provide a specimen for analysis when taken to the police station.

The offences proved particularly serious as they put Knowles in breach of a suspended prison sentence that had been imposed last year for sexually assaulting a woman in Newport.

Appearing at Newport Magistrates’ Court, Knowles, of Henllys, Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taf, pleaded guilty to both driving whilst disqualified and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison and banned from driving for 52 months.
