A man has been jailed for 12 weeks after a sharp-eyed PCSO discovered a stolen car in St Mellons. 🚗👮

Andrew Damerum, 44, of no fixed abode, was caught after police responded to reports of a Renault Clio stolen from an NCP car park in the city centre being driven in Greenway Road on Friday, January 2.

After a short pursuit, the offending vehicle got away. But PCSO Michael Davies, whilst on foot patrol, found the car on Matthysens Way and noticed three men leaving the scene. He detained one suspect, and police officer colleagues attended to arrest the two others.

Following enquiries, Damerum was charged in connection with the incident. He appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court the next day (Saturday, January 3) when he admitted handling stolen goods, namely the Renault Clio, using a vehicle without insurance, and failing to stop the vehicle on being required to do so by a constable in uniform.

Damerum was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and banned from driving for six months. The owner has had her car back.

👮 “PCSOs play a key part in keeping communities safe. Their awareness and local knowledge regularly contribute to preventing and detecting crime,” South Wales Police said. 💙
