A drug-affected burglar who helped himself to a PlayStation 5, a bottle of Invictus aftershave and an iPhone charger from a Barry home has avoided immediate custody.
The burglary
Ewan Deeley, 25, raided a property on Holton Road on 13 December last year while under the influence of drugs. He later admitted the offence when he appeared before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court.
In mitigation
The court was told that Deeley, of Dovedale Street, Barry, had shown “genuine remorse” and held “caring responsibilities”. It was also noted that he had related previous convictions on his record.
Sentencing
Magistrates handed Deeley a four-month prison term, which was suspended for 12 months. He was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work alongside a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and must pay £500 in compensation.
