A Chepstow man has been convicted of abducting and raping a teenage schoolgirl in a case that has concluded at Newport Crown Court.

Andrew Wisbey, 27, from Oak Close in Bulwark, was found guilty by a jury following a trial for offences committed against a 14-year-old girl five years ago.

The defendant had denied the charges throughout proceedings, but jurors delivered guilty verdicts on both counts of abduction and rape.

Recorder Andrew Hammond, presiding over the case, has adjourned sentencing until March 17 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Wisbey has been ordered to register as a sex offender and was granted conditional bail ahead of his sentencing hearing.

Nigel Fryer represented the defendant during the trial, whilst Ieuan Bennett appeared for the prosecution.
