A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to 42 weeks in prison after admitting to a string of shoplifting offences across Newport.
The thefts
Leigh Dight targeted Tesco, Sainsbury’s and B&M stores in the city between February 20 and April 19, stealing goods worth more than £250 in total.
Among the items taken were 12 gammon steaks, five tins of tuna, cheese and other groceries across four separate incidents.
Sentencing
Dight, of Clifton Place, Newport, pleaded guilty to four counts of theft at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard the offending also put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence he had previously received for similar offences.
District Judge Sophie Toms jailed him for 42 weeks and ordered him to pay compensation following his release from custody.
