The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as significant snowfall is expected to blanket Wales this weekend. ⚠️

The warning comes into effect from 12pm on Saturday, 4th January, until 9am on Monday, 6th January, with most of Wales affected, except for Anglesey.

According to the Met Office forecast: “Outbreaks of rain spreading northeastwards later on Saturday and overnight into Sunday will likely be preceded by a spell of snow on its northern flank. Whilst there is a fair bit of uncertainty as to how far north this may spread, and how long any snow will last, significant accumulations of snow are possible, especially (but not exclusively) on hills.”

Areas could see up to 5cm of snow widely, whilst higher ground may experience substantial accumulations of 20-30cm. The forecaster warns that strengthening winds could cause snow drifting, with parts of Wales facing the highest risk of disruption.

Residents should also be aware of potential freezing rain, which could create hazardous icy conditions across affected areas.
