Putting it right
We work hard to get things right, but when Wales Updates makes a mistake we put it right quickly and openly. Here’s how to tell us, what we do about it, and the corrections we’ve made.

How to tell us
Every story has a Spotted a mistake? link at the end, which opens our contact form with the story already filled in. Or choose “A correction or complaint” on the form yourself. Please tell us:
- Which story A link, or its headline and the date we published it.
- What’s wrong And what you believe is right, with anything that helps us check, such as a document or a picture (you can attach them to the form).
Does a story break a court order or reporting restriction? Tick “It’s about a court order or reporting restriction” on the form. Your message is marked urgent, and we check the story straight away.
What happens next
- We check it Against our notes and sources, and with you if we need to.
- We fix it We correct the story as soon as we can. A significant mistake gets a dated note at the foot of the story, saying what was wrong and what it now says, so readers can see what changed. Spelling mistakes and typos are fixed without a note.
- We correct it where we shared it If we shared a story with a significant mistake on social media, we post the correction there too.
- We tell you You hear back within 2 working days, whether or not we agree, and why.
Corrections and clarifications
- Correction We got a fact wrong: a name, a date, a place, a figure, what someone said or what happened.
- Clarification What we said wasn’t wrong, but it wasn’t clear and could have misled.
We don’t quietly delete stories to hide a mistake. On rare occasions we take one down, for legal reasons or to protect someone, and we say so when we can.
