Counterfeit tobacco products worth more than £20,000 have been taken out of circulation in Cardiff after police stumbled upon a large stash at a home in Roath.
South Wales Police said its officers came across the goods at a property on Elm Street while they were looking into a separate, unrelated matter.
What was found
The force said the illegal haul included:
- Around 1,200 packets of cigarettes
- 440 pouches of tobacco
South Wales Police put the value of the products at more than £20,000.
What happened next
The case has since been handed over to Trading Standards, and the force confirmed that every item seized has been disposed of.
The force’s post did not mention any arrests.
Community concerns
South Wales Police said it knew that residents had raised worries about people selling illegal cigarettes, vapes and tobacco, including to young people.
The force warned that the trade is not only a risk to people’s health but is also tied to anti-social behaviour and wider criminality.
