A Bargoed man has been jailed for nine months after being caught carrying a knife in public and committing a hate crime.
Jordan Gingell, 29, was arrested in Bargoed on Saturday, August 30 after police found him in possession of a knife in a public place.
Newport Magistrates’ Court heard the defendant was found guilty in his absence following a trial.
Gingell also admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent in Ystrad Mynach on the same day. This offence was aggravated due to sexual orientation.
The court sentenced Gingell, of Hanbury Road, Bargoed, to nine months imprisonment.
He was also ordered to pay £650 in costs and a £187 surcharge. The knife was ordered to be destroyed.
