📺 A 66-year-old Abergavenny resident has been ordered to pay after being caught watching television without a valid licence.

John Jones of St Helens Road appeared before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court where he entered a guilty plea for using a colour television without the required licence on June 11, 2023.

The court imposed a £40 fine plus a £16 surcharge on Mr Jones.

For reference, the current annual TV licence costs £169.50 for colour televisions and £57 for black and white sets. The colour licence fee is set to increase by £5 to £174.50 this April.

The BBC relies on licence fee revenue as its primary funding source to provide television, radio and online services across the UK.
