A 47-year-old man will remain behind bars for the next month after admitting a crack cocaine dealing charge at a Gwent court.

The charge

Matthew Ahern, whose address was given as Moorland Park in Newport, appeared before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, July 25, where he admitted possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Bail refused

The court declined to release Ahern while he waits to learn his fate. Magistrates concluded there was a risk he would commit further offences if freed, and also weighed his previous record and character alongside the nature and seriousness of what he had admitted.

What happens next

Sentencing has been listed for Monday, August 24. Ahern will be held in custody in the meantime.
