Newport Baby Dies After Medical Emergency, Man Arrested

Newport residents are in shock after a baby died following reports of a “medical emergency” at an address in Gaer Vale earlier this month. 😢

Officers from Gwent Police and paramedics responded to the emergency call at around 6:30am on Tuesday, March 4. The infant was immediately taken to hospital where it initially remained in a stable condition, but police have now confirmed the baby has sadly died.

A 35-year-old man from Blaenavon was arrested on suspicion of child neglect in connection with the incident. He has since been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.

In an official statement, a Gwent Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a medical emergency at an address in Gaer Vale, Newport at around 6.30am on Tuesday 4 March. Officers and paramedics attended, and a baby was taken to hospital, the baby has since sadly died. A 35-year-old man from Blaenavon was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. He has since been released on conditional bail.”
