A vehicle has been taken off the road in Maindee after a joint crackdown by police and Trading Standards uncovered a stash of cannabis and black-market tobacco.

The operation

Neighbourhood policing officers covering Newport East joined Trading Standards colleagues for a day of enforcement activity across Maindee. During the sweep, Trading Standards staff flagged one vehicle as a suspected hub for the sale of illicit cigarettes and tobacco.

What was found

That tip-off prompted further enquiries and a search of the vehicle. Inside, officers recovered a substantial haul of cannabis along with illegal tobacco products. The drugs were taken away by police, and the vehicle itself was also seized.

Partnership working

Gwent Police said the joint approach was central to neighbourhood safety.

“Partnership working is a vital part of keeping our neighbourhoods safe. By working closely with our partners, we can tackle criminality, protect local businesses, and address issues that matter to residents.”

The force thanked residents for the information that continues to shape enforcement work in the area.
