A 24-year-old man from the Newport area is facing four charges after a moped pursuit that ended with a suspect hiding in undergrowth and a police dog being sent in after him.
The charges
Gwent Police said on Wednesday that the man had been charged and remanded to court for dangerous driving, no insurance, disqualified driving and fraudulent use of a registration mark.
How it ended
According to the force, the rider abandoned the moped and tried to conceal himself in nearby bushes. PD Rizzo was deployed, and faced with the likelihood of a bite, the suspect emerged of his own accord.
How it started
Roads Policing officers were working a night shift in the Newport area, proactively targeting motorbikes suspected of being linked to crime, when the moped was spotted on the A4810. It failed to stop straight away.
The rider turned onto footpaths in an attempt to lose the pursuing police vehicles, but the National Police Air Service was overhead and kept track of him from above.
