A 40-year-old man has been sent to prison for two years after admitting he robbed a convenience store in Bridgend and knocked a shop worker to the floor.

Carl Jubin, of Bridgend, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday 30 July, where he was sentenced for a single count of robbery.

The robbery

The offence happened at the Spar on Ewenny Road on Thursday 28 May, when South Wales Police were called to a report of a robbery at the premises.

CCTV from inside the shop captured Jubin forcing his way behind the counter and shoving the woman working there, causing her to fall and land on her head. He took a single vape before fleeing the premises.

Identified on camera

The store’s footage proved central to the investigation. Officers recognised Jubin from the recording and he was arrested a short time later.

Police reaction

Sergeant Jonathan Watts, of South Wales Police, said: “Robbery can have a devastating impact on shopworkers, and nobody should be subjected to violence while going about their work.

A quick response from the team and the co-operation of the victim, and her colleagues, has ensured that Jubin has been put in prison for a significant period”
