The city’s ice rink, giant wheel and ski lodge bar are all coming back this year, with Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland confirmed to open on Thursday, November 12 and run through to Sunday, January 3, 2027.
Two sites, one Christmas
As in previous years, the attraction splits across Cardiff Castle grounds and the lawns of City Hall. Walking in costs nothing, but the rides, the wheel and the rink are all paid for separately.
Organisers say there will be “festive fun for everyone, including seasonal ice skating, thrilling family funfair, winter treats and festive entertainment.”
What’s at the castle
Cardiff Castle is where you’ll find the ice. Alongside the main rink there’s a smaller novice rink for beginners, accessible skating sessions, and an ice walk that takes more confident skaters outside. Curling makes its debut this year, and the Tafarn bar returns with food, drink and entertainment.
Skating tickets have to be bought online in advance, and organisers are urging people to book early because sessions sell out at busy times. Tickets aren’t on sale yet but will be soon – details will appear at https://www.visitcardiff.com/christmas/
What’s at City Hall
The City Hall lawn takes the classic funfair line-up: the giant wheel, family fairground rides, food stalls and entertainment.
The two-storey Sur La Piste – Ski Lodge Bar is also back. Grab a blanket, settle into one of the wooden booths and order a mulled wine or hot chocolate.
Before you go
Opening hours change across the season, and the whole site shuts on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Organisers advise checking before you travel.
