Efforts to help households and businesses hit by flooding in the Cardiff village of Gwaelod-y-garth have entered a new phase, with the multi-agency operation now shifting away from emergency response and towards recovery.
Siân Gwenllian, the Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning, has confirmed that ministers are keeping a close watch on developments and will go on working alongside the organisations dealing with the aftermath.
The minister’s statement
Speaking about the incident, Siân Gwenllian said:
“This is a concerning incident and our thoughts are with the residents and businesses affected by the flooding in Gwaelod-y-garth, Cardiff.
“We continue to monitor the situation and support our partners as part of a multi-agency response, which is now transitioning to recovery.
“Relevant authorities will now be investigating the incident to understand exactly what happened so it would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this stage.”
What happens next
Responsibility for establishing the sequence of events now passes to the bodies charged with looking into it. The Welsh Government has made clear it will not be drawn any further while that work remains outstanding.
No details have so far been released about the extent of the damage across the village.
