South Wales Police have carried out a series of operations targeting the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Weapon and bike seized in Ely
Plain-clothed officers in Treseder Way, Ely, seized a knuckle duster and a pit bike. A 33-year-old man from Newport was charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, driving without a valid licence, and driving without valid insurance.
A Surron electric bike and a separate illegally adapted bike were also seized in Trelai Park.
High-speed bike surrendered in Llantwit Major
The Llantwit Major Neighbourhood Policing Team seized a bike found to be capable of exceeding 60mph as it was being ridden through the town centre. A 45-year-old local man was spoken to about the law surrounding e-bikes and voluntarily handed over the vehicle for destruction.
Public warning
Inspector Tim Ursell from South Wales Police said: “Unlawful use of e-bikes and e-scooters is not only illegal but also puts pedestrians and road users at serious risk.
“The impact of anti-social e-bike riders on the communities is regularly raised as a concern.
“We urge the public to please understand the law and make safe, legal choices.”
