A man has been jailed and banned from NCP car parks in Cardiff city centre after he was caught stealing from parked cars.

Tyler Roberts targeted three vehicles in NCP car parks on Quay Street and Greyfriars Road over the weekend of February 14 and 15.

His downfall came when a sharp-eyed member of the public spotted him acting suspiciously in the Quay Street car park and took his photograph.

The images were passed to police officers patrolling the city centre, who recognised Roberts as he walked past Cardiff Castle during the early hours of Sunday, February 15.

He was found carrying a black duffle bag and a waterproof backpack. Inside was a haul of suspected stolen goods including a laptop, iPhone, designer sunglasses, cash and jewellery.

Roberts appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 16, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.

He was jailed for 14 weeks and made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering any NCP car park in Cardiff city centre for two years. 🚔

Inspector Joe Smith from South Wales Police said: “We know that being a victim of car crime is upsetting, costly and an inconvenience.

“Thankfully on this occasion, we were able to quickly arrest the person responsible and return stolen property to victims.

“Thieves are targeting car parks in Cardiff city centre. Please do not leave valuables, including shopping bags, on view.”
