A woman who stole from two Barry stores within four weeks of each other has been sent to prison for 24 weeks after a suspended sentence hanging over her was brought into force.
Hannah Hyde, 39, of no fixed abode, Barry, appeared before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court and indicated guilty pleas to both thefts.
The thefts
The first offence took place on July 4, when Hyde took a selection of fragrance products valued at £108 from Boots.
She returned to the town’s shops later the same month, and on July 28 helped herself to food and coffee worth £45 from Tesco. The two hauls came to £153 between them.
Sentencing
Magistrates handed down four weeks’ imprisonment for the theft from Boots, with a further four weeks imposed for the Tesco offence. The two terms were ordered to run consecutively.
That figure rose sharply once the bench dealt with a suspended prison sentence Hyde was already subject to, which had originally been imposed for similar offending. With that term activated, her total time in custody was set at 24 weeks.
