Three people have been sentenced after officers pulled over a hire car in Cardiff and recovered wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, thousands in cash and a phone tied to a drug line.
Sentencing
Kieran Chapman, 29, from St Mellons, admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine and heroin. He will serve four years and five months.
Keanu Hicks, 26, from Adamsdown, admitted possessing cocaine and heroin with intent to supply, and was jailed for three years and four months.
Chantelle Johnson, 36, from Gabalfa, who was behind the wheel, avoided immediate custody. She received a three-year sentence, suspended for 30 months.
The stop
The case began on 9 April 2025, when officers pulled over a rental vehicle travelling along Newport Road. All three were inside at the time. A search of the car turned up multiple wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, a substantial sum of cash and several mobile phones. Officers tracing the handsets found one stored in the glove box that connected to a drug line.
Search of the driver’s home
Following the arrests, officers went on to search Johnson’s address. Cannabis was recovered there, along with shotgun shells and a bullet-proof vest.
Police reaction
Detective Sergeant Lia Jones said:
“It was immediately apparent that these three individuals had strong ties to criminality involving Class A drugs just from the quantities of substances and money that were found in their car when they were arrested. The smell of cannabis was also overwhelming.
“The subsequent investigation reinforced these criminal links. They are, like so many others before them, people who have decided to sell Class A drugs in order to benefit financially, without a care for what harm these drugs will do to those down the line who end up consuming them, as well as their families and wider communities.
“They belong in prison, and that’s where they’re heading.”
