A woman who repeatedly targeted shops in Barry and Penarth has been hit with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order following her latest conviction.
Victoria Taylor, 30, from Barry, was handed the CBO at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on February 26 after being found guilty of three thefts.
Why the order was needed
The court was told Taylor’s persistent offending had caused significant distress, disruption and financial losses to local businesses. Staff described her as aggressive and threatening when confronted about her behaviour.
What the ban means
Taylor is now prohibited from entering several named stores, including the Co-op on Colcot Road, Home Bargains on Palmerston Road, Asda at Waterfront Retail Park, any Tesco in Barry and Penarth, and any One Stop Shop in Barry.
She is also forbidden from behaving in a disorderly, threatening or abusive manner in any retail premises across both towns, and must leave any shop immediately if asked to do so.
The consequences
Breaking the order is a criminal offence that could result in a prison sentence, a fine, or both.
PC Adrian Muscat, Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator at South Wales Police, said: “South Wales Police work closely with retailers and businesses to protect them from crime and anti-social behaviour committed by individuals like Victoria Taylor.
“Taylor’s behaviour has caused persistent and continuous harassment and distress to the communities of Barry and Penarth.”
The CBO forms part of a broader crackdown on shoplifting and anti-social behaviour by police across Cardiff and the Vale. Anyone who witnesses a breach is urged to report it to police.
