A 38-year-old who assaulted his partner and twice defied a court order designed to protect her has been sentenced to 45 weeks in prison.

Craig Rowlands, of Hafan Deg, Tanygrisiau, appeared at Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court on 10 June, having previously admitted three counts of assault by beating and two counts of breaching a domestic abuse protection order (DAPO).

The assault

In January this year, Rowlands subjected his partner to a violent assault, pushing and kicking her and striking her about the face and head.

Repeated breaches

A DAPO was imposed on 19 March, prohibiting Rowlands from having any contact with the victim.

Just weeks later, on 1 April, he attended her address in defiance of the order. Officers who responded found him inside the property, and he was arrested.

On 21 May, police received further information that Rowlands was at the address once again. When officers arrived, they discovered him hiding underneath a bed.

PC Aled Hughes said: “Rowlands has shown a flagrant disrespect for the justice system by going against an order that was made to prevent the victim from coming to further harm.

“We will not tolerate this type of behaviour and will robustly pursue any individual who is a danger to others.

“Violence against women and girls continues to be a priority for the force and we will fully investigate any reports made to us.”
