Seven people from Newport have been charged following reports of violent disorder on Commercial Road on Friday afternoon ⚖️
Gwent Police responded to the incident at approximately 15:20 BST after a group of men were spotted fighting in the city centre.
Six men aged 25, 28, 33, 40, 42 and 52, along with a 17-year-old boy, all from Newport, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. The six adult men have been remanded into custody whilst the teenager has been released on police bail.
All seven are scheduled to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on 4 August.
An eighth man, aged 40 and also from Newport, has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in police custody.
Gwent Police Ch Supt John Davies said: “I hope that these charges show our communities that we are heavily invested in responding to and investigating reports of crime and that we are committed to helping keep the streets of Gwent safe.
