A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison following a violent assault on his neighbour in Rhydyfelin.

Conner Gough, of Beechwood Street, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court today after being convicted of threats to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, and common assault. The assault took place on Beechwood Street on 19th August at approximately 9pm.

The victim, a 21-year-old man who lives with his partner, had been enduring harassment from Gough for over a year. This included banging on walls and Gough taunting him by smiling into his CCTV cameras, following a previous report to police about Gough’s aggressive behaviour towards local youths.

On the night of the assault, the victim heard familiar banging and spotted Gough outside on CCTV. When he went to confront him, Gough grabbed him by the throat, forced him inside the house, and repeatedly strangled him whilst slamming his head against a door. During the attack, Gough threatened his life, stating: “YOU’RE GOING TO DIE.”

The victim’s partner locked themselves in a room and called the police whilst Gough continued his attack, attempting to gain entry to where the partner was hiding. Gough then fled the scene before officers arrived.

PC Katie Jackson, who oversaw the investigation, stated: “This case highlights the serious consequences of violence and the importance of taking such threats seriously. No one should have to endure the kind of intimidation and violence that this victim faced. We are committed to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.”
