Philip Evans, 43, from Glan Y Nant, Fochriw, has been sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison at Cardiff Crown Court for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard how Evans subjected his victim to a prolonged assault lasting approximately 6 to 7 hours. The attack began after an argument about infidelity and escalated into violence, with Evans holding her down, slapping, biting, and strangling her.
The victim’s son contacted police after expressing concerns about Evans’s presence in the home. She initially tried to cover for Evans, claiming she had fallen, but later disclosed the full extent of the assault to officers.
The court heard that the victim attributed Evans’s violent behaviour to his daily use of the drug GHB. Despite moments of calm, his addiction often led to erratic and aggressive behaviour.
The assault left her with severe bruising and emotional trauma, which prompted her son to intervene and seek police assistance.
