Police seize vehicles in Newport taxi and drink-drive blitz

Gwent Police officers teamed up with Newport City Council Taxi Licensing and immigration officers on Friday night for a major checkpoint operation in Newport city centre.

The multi-agency operation targeted taxi compliance and roadworthiness whilst also conducting roadside impairment tests on other drivers as part of Operation Limit – the force’s festive campaign against drink and drug driving.

The checkpoint resulted in one driver being arrested on suspicion of drug driving, one Section 59 warning issued, one Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act search conducted, two vehicles seized, and five Traffic Offence Reports issued.
