A large-scale cannabis factory has been dismantled at a residential property in the Pentrebane area of Cardiff after officers acted on intelligence from the community.
The discovery
Members of the Fairwater Neighbourhood Policing Team forced entry to a house on Beechley Drive, where they uncovered an extensive growing operation containing in excess of 100 plants. The property was subsequently made safe by officers, and all of the cannabis was seized and destroyed.
Wider harm
South Wales Police highlighted the broader dangers posed by such operations, noting that they frequently have connections to serious and organised criminal networks.
The force also warned that cannabis factories present a significant fire risk to surrounding homes and neighbouring residents.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “People often talk of cannabis as being a victimless crime, but it’s not.
“Whatever your viewpoint on cannabis, the serious and organised crime which is often linked to cannabis factories can cause real harm to our communities and funds further criminality.
“The factories are also a fire risk to neighbouring properties.”
