Fourteen high-powered e-bikes and scooters have been taken off the road after a multi-force operation targeting nuisance off-road riding in Neath Port Talbot and the surrounding area.
The operation
The day of action formed part of Operation Arnellia, a South Wales Police initiative led by the Pontardawe Neighbourhood Policing Team. It was set up to tackle the problems caused by off-road vehicles, e-bikes and e-scooters across the eastern part of the force’s Western Basic Command Unit.
Pontardawe officers did not work alone. Neighbourhood teams from Neath and Port Talbot joined the effort, as did colleagues from neighbouring Dyfed-Powys Police. Support also came from above, with a fixed-wing aircraft deployed to help crews pinpoint where riders were operating.
What was recovered
Fourteen machines were seized over the course of the engagement, described by the force as high-powered Sur-Ron/e-bikes and scooters.
Action against riders
A number of riders were identified during the operation and have been reported for offences. Where officers judged it the more suitable outcome, others were given advice instead.
Police reaction
Sergeant Jordan Davies praised those involved.
“This was excellent work by the team who worked hard on the day to recover a large amount of vehicles, as well as demonstrating their knowledge and competence surrounding the issue in order to be in the right places at the right times.”
Operation Arnellia remains an ongoing strand of neighbourhood policing work in the area.
