A 27-year-old Newport woman has been sentenced to 12 months in jail after pleading guilty to multiple offences, including assaulting three police officers. 👮‍♀️

Payton Smith of Roman Way, Caerleon appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court where she admitted three counts of assaulting an emergency worker – Police Officers Dafydd Arnold, Corey Williams and Angela Ionescu.

Smith also pleaded guilty to causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to Rimah Khanom in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, as well as affray and assault by beating against Darren Evans in Newport.

All offences took place on Wednesday, 5 March.

The court heard that Smith had a previous conviction for religiously aggravated assault by beating, for which she received a community order in October last year.

In addition to the 12-month jail sentence, Smith was ordered to pay £100 compensation to each of the three officers she assaulted. 💷
