A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 weeks in prison after admitting to a spree of shoplifting offences and a death threat made against a member of staff.

Samuel Reardon, of no fixed abode but from Newport, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to all three charges against him.

The offences

Between April 1 and April 19, Reardon carried out thefts at two shops in the city. He stole six boxes of protein bars valued at £219.60 from Sainsbury’s and perfume worth £140 from the Fragrance Shop.

He also admitted to threatening to kill a person during the same period.

Sentencing

The court heard that Reardon was already subject to a suspended prison sentence at the time of his offending, placing him in breach of that earlier order.

He was handed a total sentence of 40 weeks’ imprisonment.
