A Newport flat has been boarded up following reports of anti-social behaviour and persistent disorder 🏠
Gwent Police has responded to residents’ concerns by securing a Closure Order on the property in George Street, Pill. The occupants have been ordered to leave and find alternative accommodation.
Newport Magistrates’ Court granted the three-month closure order on Friday 19 September.
PC Claire Drayton, crime and disorder reduction officer at the neighbourhood policing team in Pill, said: “Today’s closure order is a result of our officers responding to concerns from residents about the persistent anti-social behaviour (ASB), disorder and unacceptable behaviour at this property.
“I want to commend the bravery of one resident in particular, who has shown courage throughout, put their trust in me and provided important evidence to support our case.
“Today’s result has been welcomed by all those impacted by the persistent disorder at this flat.
“I also want to thank the support from Hedyn. I hope this closure order demonstrates that we take concerns about ASB very seriously.
“At Gwent Police, we recognise the devastating impact that ASB can have on people within our communities and I believe this outcome shows our commitment to addressing it and safeguarding our communities in Newport.” ⚖️
The order expires on Thursday 18 December. During this period, anyone attempting to enter the address will be committing a criminal offence and could be arrested.
Police urge anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour or other criminality in their community to contact them.
