A vehicle that had previously failed to stop for police has been recovered in the Caerphilly area and sent for forensic examination, Gwent Police has said.

The discovery

Police community support officers (PCSOs) from the Caerphilly South neighbourhood policing team came across the vehicle while out on routine patrol. The force, which described it as abandoned, said it had looked suspicious to the PCSOs.

What checks revealed

When officers looked into the vehicle, they found it had been involved in an earlier incident in which it failed to stop for police and made off. Further enquiries showed:

  • It had no insurance
  • It had no MOT
  • Its number plates had been removed, which the force said was an attempt to hide the vehicle’s identity

Next steps

The vehicle has now been taken away for forensic examination. Gwent Police said it hopes this will help identify those responsible.

The force has not said where exactly the vehicle was found, or when the earlier failure to stop took place.
