Police were called to Abergavenny this afternoon after members of the public reported a group of young people attempting to start fires in the area.
Gwent Police said officers quickly arrived at the scene, tracked down those responsible and confiscated the items being used. The seized materials will be safely disposed of, the force confirmed.
Warning over fire risk
The force stressed that starting fires – especially near residential areas – presents a serious danger to people, property and the surrounding environment, and said incidents like this will always be treated seriously.
Those involved will be dealt with through appropriate measures, Gwent Police added.
The force thanked local residents for alerting them to the incident.
