A young woman has been sentenced to a year behind bars after pleading guilty to a string of shoplifting offences targeting stores in Monmouth.
Tegan Bevan, 21, of no fixed abode, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 10 February where she was handed a 12-month prison sentence.
Bevan admitted six counts of theft from a shop, alongside two counts of fraud by false representation and one count of theft from a vehicle – all committed in the Monmouth and Chepstow areas.

PC Laura Jones, the officer in the case, spoke about the impact of Bevan’s offending on local businesses and communities.
“Theft, and particularly shoplifting, is not a victimless crime,” she said.
“The impact of this type of offending is hugely felt by our communities, and we know it must be exceptionally dispiriting for retailers to be perennially targeted in this way by offenders like Bevan.
“Part of our work to tackle shoplifting also includes providing crime prevention advice to businesses but it is crucial that anyone who is affected by theft reports it to us so we can continue to target those who make life a misery for business owners and their staff.
“We hope this sentence demonstrates our commitment to tackling theft and safeguarding our communities in Monmouthshire and beyond.”
