A 39-year-old man who groomed a teenage girl online before meeting her in a car park and sexually abusing her has been sentenced at Newport Crown Court.
Owen Evans, of Barry, entered guilty pleas to four offences on the day his trial was due to begin.
The offences
Evans admitted grooming the 13-year-old victim before arranging to meet her in person. He pleaded guilty to meeting a girl under 16 following grooming, engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15, sexual communication with a child, and making an indecent photograph of a child.
His offending took place between October 1, 2024 and June 4, 2025.
Sentencing
Judge David Wynn Morgan sentenced Evans to seven years in custody with an extended licence period of three years.
Evans was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and made the subject of a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. A restraining order was imposed preventing him from contacting his victim until further notice.
He will be required to pay a £228 surcharge following his release.
