A serial shoplifter has been jailed for 30 weeks after going on a stealing spree across multiple stores in Newport.

Connor Stone, 28, of School Lane, Newport, targeted a string of well-known retailers in recent months, helping himself to sweets, lager and Easter eggs from shops across the city.

His biggest single haul came from the Tesco Express on Caerleon Road, where he stole confectionery worth £432 on Friday, January 16.

Stone also hit Asda on Lower Dock Street, Iceland on Commercial Street and Sainsbury’s during his shoplifting binge, with businesses jointly losing more than £2,000 as a result of his thefts.

On top of the multiple theft offences, Stone assaulted three security guards who attempted to stop him.

He pleaded guilty to all charges at Newport Magistrates’ Court, where District Judge Sophie Toms sentenced him to 30 weeks in prison.

Stone was also ordered to pay compensation to his victims following his release.
